Doorplate From General Eisenhower's WWII Headquarters

Supreme Headquarters, Allied Expeditionary Force (SHAEF), was formally established in London in mid-February 1944 although it had been in the process of development for two years. This was the official headquarters for General Dwight D. Eisenhower, the Supreme Commander of Allied Forces in Europe, until WWII ended. From here Ike directed all the major battles including the Normandy Landing. This metal plate was reportedly attached to the wall outside the door to Ike's office. It was purchased from the estate of one of the officers on General Eisenhower's immediate staff at SHAEF.
